26" x 26"
Created with multi-media on canvas card and spare compressed wood.

Madness needs no reason...
The individual's favourite character is the Joker and their loud, fun personality allowed me to experiment. What you see is the Joker in the Mad Hatters outfit. With melted crayons and a spray-painted wooden frame. All-in-all a vibrant piece, and a kick start to what you are witnessing now.

the Lancaster arms
32" x 40"
Created with multi-media on framed canvas and wood

Created as a central piece for the grand reopening of The Lancaster Arm Pub in Leicestershire.
Again, this was another piece that I had free rein with. The only request was for the composition to fit in with the theme of the pub.

My first thought: The Lancaster Arms is a pub rich in history, especially as it is located en route between Leicester and The Battle of Bosworth site and hence, is part of the King Richard III tourist trail. Accordingly, Richard III is one of the focus points of the piece, sticking with my style I worked in detail throughout the painting.
My second thought: The pub's logo features a wild boar. Four hundred years ago, wild boars officially became extinct in Britain. Boar hunts were the realm of kings in the middle ages, indeed the boar was the heraldic symbol used by King Richard III. A charging boar was considered an exceptionally dangerous foe, due to its thick hide and dense bones. Respectively, the boar became the main focal point.
My third thought: How to feature these two aspects together with unity. And so, I thought about how The Lancaster Arms is a dog-friendly pub. Hence, King Richard III had a lead around the boar. I also thought this was a good symbol of the power he had, as the rope implies he has managed to tame the boar (not something I would ever apply in real life, but used as a symbol of history), notice how the rope is held loosely. Also, I didn't want the picture to be too menacing so the boar has a cute and fluffy element to it to welcome visitors.
My fourth thought: previously when pubs were more open they featured saloon doors. This idea worked perfectly, as it allowed me to add a three-dimensional effect to the painting. And so, I created a saloon door out of wood with a frame and a sign. Once this was created I was able to paint the second saloon door with acrylics on the canvas mix up the style.
My Fifth thought: once I had put it all together, personally I thought the background was lacking something, what better to add than fire, as the pub has new light fixtures (and open fireplaces) that complement the ones I included in the painting.
My sixth thought: that's enough thinking!

gladiator hulk
35.5" x 24"
Created with acrylic on Palfoam sheet

A fun comic-style art piece. For a fellow Marvel fan. Encapsulating the ability of fictional character to portray human emotion. When asked to create Hulk one scene comes straight to mind: in Marvel's The Avengers when Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner wonderfully delivers the cathartic line, “That's my secret, Captain. I'm always angry,” The Hulk gives us a wink and we all revel in the epiphany that Banner's persona is nothing but a facade, and a tissue paper-thin one at that. It is one of my favourite lines
(along with
Steve Rogers: But if you put the hammer in an elevator?
Tony Stark: It'll still go up.
Steve Rogers: Elevator's not worthy.).

elephantine
24" x 32"
Created with acrylic on canvas

Elephants are both beautiful and majestic creatures and in this project, only two things were requested, it had to feature:
1. An animal
2. that animal had to be holding fruit.
Inspired by one of my favourite creations 'George', this piece came alive.
The elephants' skin creases extrude from the page, created with white gesso primer, to give the painting an interesting texture, the feeling that the elephant could walk off the page.
